Project Codename: keitai

Concept vehicular dash phone application: Born as a mock project, this concept was born out of the frustrating interaction between a motorist and his or her mobile phone. The objective of this project is to improve driving focus during vehicle phone communications.
  • I: Main Menu
    The interface is designed to be efficient to use, which allows the driver to keep attention on driving. To activate the phone function, the user simply presses on the phone icon. Once a user presses on the icon, a submenu of call functions appear. Alternatively, the user may press and swipe in the direction of the desired function to create a quick navigational shortcut

  • II: Keypad
    The user my also place calls via keypad. The keypad is large to provide users with poor eyes and large fingers the ability to easily dial a number.

  • III: Favorites Menu
    As shown in the image, the user has selected the favorites function. A scrubbable portrait list appears. The user can then touch the portrait image to place a call to that person.

  • IV: Active Call
    While the user is on the call, contextual functions appear on the portrait image. As in this instance the user can mute/hold the call by pressing on the image. When the call is concluded the user may simply swipe down to end the call as indicated by the icon shown on the image.

  • V: Incoming Call
    In the event that the user receives an incoming call while another call is active a smaller portrait of the incoming caller appears. The user may swipe down on the incoming caller’s portrait to reject or they may press on it to hold the current call and answer the second line. In addition the user may merge the calls by simply dragging one portrait together. Once the call is merged the two portraits stick together and a new subset of functions appear on the portraits .

  • VI: Address Book
    Because our brains process images faster than text, The visual address book makes navigating contacts quick and easy. The user can scroll though the alphabet and once a letter is selected the user can scrub left or right on the portraits to find the desired contact. Once the desired contact is found, pressing the portrait will place a call.

  • VII: Recieved Call
    Incoming calls are displayed as a portrait with a swiping gesture funtion. Swipe left “back” to create a call back reminder. Swipe right to write a response using “quick responses” Swipe down to ignore the incoming call.
